The Planning Division of the Community Development Department is responsible for the City’s current and long-range planning.
Additionally, the Planning Division oversees Community Design through the administration of the City’s Residential Design Guidelines, as well as the restoration and preservation of qualified historic buildings through Mills Acts contracts.
Current Planning
Current Planning involves the administration and enforcement of the City’s Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Ordinance. This includes reviewing and clearing requests made through the ConnectLCF Application Portal (e.g. planning entitlements, building permits,, business license, tree permits, etc.). Current Planning analyzes and prepares reports for discretionary approvals, and monitors development for compliance with regulations and approvals.
Long-Range Planning
Long-Range Planning ensures balanced long-term development in accordance with the City’s adopted General Plan, which is the City’s guiding document with goals, policies, and objectives to be achieved over time.
Water Efficiency Requirements
La Cañada Flintridge promotes the benefits of landscaping practices that integrate and go beyond the conservation and efficient use of water. Landscapes are essential to the City’s quality of life as an enhancement to the environment by cleaning the air and preventing erosion. The City Council adopted Chapter 4.23 of the Municipal Code regarding the “Water Efficient Landscaping” for new construction projects and landscaping projects of 2,500 square feet or more. A Certificate of Completion will need to be submitted once the landscaping is in place.
Water conservation resources may be found on the State Department of Water Resources website.
