The City Council has tasked the City’s Age-Friendly Community Project Team with advising the Council on how to make the community more accessible, welcoming, and responsive to citizens of all ages and abilities.  The Team’s first step toward this goal is to collect and analyze feedback on the best ways to communicate with all residents about City programs, activities, and resources.

The Project Team released its first brief survey through multiple channels, and encourages all residents to take approximately 3 minutes to complete it.  The survey is available online where multiple languages can be selected to complete it.

“Our Team will be recommending ways to make LCF as age-friendly as possible for today’s residents as well as future residents,” explained Gary Stibal, Chair of the Team.  “We are currently interested in identifying the most effective ways of providing folks who live here with current information about critical issues like emergency response, and enriching activities that make our community such a wonderful place to call home.”

“When we understand how citizens prefer to get City information, our City can provide the information that citizens need and want in the most accessible ways,” explained Lauren MacMillan, Ph.D., a member of the Committee.   “For example, LCF citizens might not know that we can use the City’s contracted Beach Bus for free transportation to and from the beach every summer.  We want to know the most effective ways to share this and other information so everyone can be aware of these opportunities.”

“Most of us now depend on the internet for information, but the City has to be aware of how to quickly share critical and in some cases life-saving information with the most citizens possible, including people with disabilities or older residents ” explained Arabo Parseghian, Acting Director of Administrative Services and the City’s liaison to the Project Team.  “The survey will not only provide us with essential information, it will also help make everyone aware of the various ways they can access information.”
