GOLD STAR HEROES BANNER PROGRAM GUIDELINES

The City of La Cañada Flintridge Gold Star Heroes Banner Program recognizes our community’s men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice. The Gold Star is awarded to service member’s immediate family when their loved one is killed in action or dies while honorably serving during war time. The City will display Gold Star banners for the community in the same way a family can display a Gold Star Service Flag.

Purpose

The Gold Star Heroes Banner Program is designed to honor the service member’s ultimate sacrifice while acknowledging their family’s loss, grief, and continued healing. The City Council established the program in March 2024 as an opportunity to pay tribute to those who gave their lives while protecting our freedoms and serving their nation.

The program includes designing and printing a banner for each gold star recipient and installing the banners on light poles near Memorial Park during the month of May. The banners will feature the service member’s full name, rank, photograph and branch of service.
