Underscoring its ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for housing development, the La Cañada Flintridge City Council approved amendments to the General Plan Land Use Element, Zoning Code, Zoning Map and Downtown Village Specific Plan as part of its implementation of the adopted 2021-2029 Housing Element.

The City Council adopted ordinances on both September 12 and September 19, 2023, to

expand the zones where housing is permitted and amend development standards to encourage and promote housing development. The amendments also allow for increased densities and identify additional sites where opportunities for housing are now encouraged. In adopting the various amendments, the City Council affirmed its continuing commitment to comply with applicable laws and partner with the state to ensure housing opportunities are available to all.

“After numerous public meetings with the Planning Commission and City Council, study sessions and workshops, we are proud to see this update coming to fruition,” said Director of Community Development Susan Koleda. “For the last two years, the City has been working hard to balance state requirements with the character of the community to create a Housing Element that is compliant with state housing law and meets resident expectations.”
