On November 16, 2021, the City Council of La Cañada Flintridge adopted a Resolution that entered the City into the AARP’s Age-Friendly Program. The City Council has committed to making the City a more age-friendly community by actively working with residents and implementing changes based on “pillars of livability.”

The highlight of the City being a member in the AARP’s Age-Friendly Program is the formation of an Age-Friendly Community Project Team. The Project Team will meet regularly to discuss various “pillars of livability” which include outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, social participation, respect and social inclusion, and community and health services. Based on these “pillars of livability,” a five-year Master Plan will be developed and later submitted to the City Council for consideration and adoption.  The Master Plan identifies specific actions/goals in order to better the lives of La Cañada Flintridge residents of all ages.

The Age-Friendly Community Project Team is composed of eleven volunteer-members who were selected through an application process and approved by the City Council.

The newly formed Project Team thus had its kickoff meeting on July 14, 2022. During the meeting, the team began discussing timelines, goals, and the scope of the Master Plan. Members of the team participated in reviewing the pillars of livability. The Project Team also voted Chair and Vice Chair to lead the team through their meetings.  Gary Stibal was voted Chair and Adam Franko was voted Vice Chair.  The Project Team will meet regularly as they work on the development of the Master Plan. Finally, throughout the process, the Project Team will be engaging the public through survey requests and public outreach.
